When we first launched our store, we had a mission in mind for ourselves. We knew there were people out in the world from all walks of life interested in card games. We want to be an inclusive community for anyone who walks into the store. Whatever their race, culture, sexuality, gender identity, or even income level. Keeping that in mind, as we grow it becomes more and more important to start setting expectations of our patrons.
We want to foster a community that grows together. As silly as it is to say, we want the people who come into our store to feel safe and comfortable about their surroundings. Tea Houses were designed to have low ceilings because everyone who enters them needs to kneel to one another. It equalizes the playing field so to speak. It doesn't matter if you were royalty or if you were a peasant; when you came into a tea house, you had to kneel to everyone in the house as a gesture of good faith and humility. We want to bring that same discipline into our shop. That is why we have decided to impose a set of expectations for all our patrons to follow.
A royal decree
If you enter this store, you will be asked to follow these rules. If you do not comply with them, you will be suspended or banished.
Do not steal
Trading Card Games have an economy. The cards that are made have value. They are not only collectibles, but they are assets. It is true that if you have a very valuable card, someone else probably wants to take that away from you. Blatant theft of cards is never acceptable in our store. Our patrons don't want to turn around and see that their deck has been stolen. Our staff doesn't want to take the time looking through the cameras tracking down a thief. We want our patrons to know that they can trust the people we accept into our community. Unfortunately, just because the rules exist, doesn't mean people will follow them. We want to be realistic as well. Dabbers Cards and Games is not responsible for any personal belongings that are lost within our store. However, if we see that there is a responsible party behind those missing items. They are no longer be welcome within our community.
Be respectful to others
Respecting each other is important to us. When you sit down in front of an opponent in tournament, things can get pretty heated. We want to foster a competitive community, but one that understands what it means to be respectful of the other individual. We want our players to practice good sportsmanship. That includes everything from being respectful when you sit down and play a game, to respecting your opponent enough not to cheat them inside that game. Anyone who does not comply with these expectations will not be allowed to participate within our events. Repeat offenders won't be welcome within the store.
honor the marketplace
Buying and selling cards is what makes us who we are. We came from the world of floor vending, or binder grinding as some would call it. As of right now we respect the hustle. When you sell to us, you are helping us facilitate our environment. When you sell to someone else inside the store, you are taking away from the store. Historically, stores have moved towards banning those who come inside our community exclusively to trade for value or even profit. We do not want to do so because we feel that it inhibits the community as a whole to block trading for any reason. We will however dismiss any member of the community who we believe is practicing any predatory or molesting behaviors in regards to trading, buying or selling within the store.
tell us what you think
The goal of implementing these rules are to ensure that the community at large is healthy. Moving forward, we want to hear the communities feedback on how we implement and sustain this environment. If we are doing something wrong, then we should know about it. If you like what we are doing, we want to hear that too. We need to know how the community responds because ultimately that is what we are here for.
